Government Support

It should be noted that Sinopec was only a producer of mask raw material polypropylene more than a month ago. In order to fight against the epidemic, the enterprise entered the middle and lower reaches and quickly opened the whole industrial chain of mask production.

There are generally three layers of masks. The outer and inner layers are made of non-woven fabrics that meet the medical and health standards, and the raw materials are polypropylene. The protective layer in the middle is melt blown cloth, which is made of polypropylene modified melt blown material. It can filter bacteria and prevent the spread of bacteria. Its fiber diameter is only one thirtieth of that of hair, which is the key of filter protection.

Obviously, melt blown cloth is the key to the rapid production of masks. For a time, the melt blown cloth became the "bottleneck" of the industrial chain, and the price once soared.

Knowing this situation, Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical gave full play to the advantages of polypropylene production capacity, technology, team and industrial chain, immediately launched technical breakthrough, and accelerated the research and development of special materials for melt blown cloth in combination with local governments and qualified manufacturers. On February 23, the trial production of melt blown non-woven fabric special material developed and converted by Shanghai Petrochemical Company was successful. It can produce 6 tons per day and help to add nearly 6 million disposable medical masks per day.

Zhang Yuzhuo said that by the end of May, Sinopec is expected to have a total production capacity of 35 tons of melt blown cloth per day, accounting for about 20% of the country's total, and is expected to become the country's largest producer of melt blown cloth, helping to produce 35 million disposable medical masks per day.

The next link of the melt blown cloth is the production of masks. Sinopec has decided to directly produce masks by simply "going all the way". Li Renyao, general manager of the small orthopaedic business group of natong company, said: "we don't usually produce masks.
