Recently, Oerlikon Barmag has upgraded and modified the ACW series of winding heads. For operators of POY spinning systems equipped with ACW technology, the advantages of the WINGS concept have become within reach. Thousands of winders around the world can be upgraded with this system.
In addition to the savings in energy, waste wire and human resources, the advantages of the WINGS concept machine include consistent high quality filaments, making WINGS filaments the winner of deep processing. In terms of dyeing properties, the filaments are significantly superior to those produced by conventional winder processes.
Filament manufacturers can now achieve these typical WINGS performances with ACW winders – with the appropriate system upgrades. ACW's WINGS conversion kit and ACW draft unit upgrades can be installed as plug-ins, requiring virtually no time, thus minimizing system downtime. Similar to WINGS, the new ACW WINGS drafting device is more compact and uses a roller instead of a yarn guide to guide the filaments. This minimizes the friction of the filaments and keeps the deflection angle of the filaments constant, thereby optimizing the tension of the filaments throughout the package.

The first phase of the renovation project has been successfully implemented in China's polyester filament manufacturer - Zhejiang Rongsheng, with a total of 96 positions. “We have achieved excellent filament standards in only four days. The AA quality standard has a filament winding rate of 98%, and the yarn break rate per filament is only 0.5”. General Manager of Rongsheng Spinning Factory Xu Yongming concluded when he talked about the upgrade package. “This has once again made us one of the top manufacturers of ACW filaments.” The second phase of the renovation will begin at the end of 2019 with an additional 88 positions.
The retrofit kit is also particularly interesting because it has a fast ROI (return on investment) of less than a year. ACW WINGS is suitable for all ACW models producing Polyester, Nylon 6 and Nylon 6.6 POY / HOY winders.
